Terms

The terms for using Saybooks

Effective 2026-11-02. Saybooks is operated by Crankk Inc ("we"). It is built and run by Peter Varga, its founder, who wrote these terms in plain words. They cover the hosted service at saybooks.io, the connector your AI assistant uses, and the Saybooks apps for Mac and iPhone. Questions go to hello@saybooks.io.

The short version

Your account and your books

You sign in to saybooks.io with a Google account. You are responsible for what goes into the spaces you own and for the people you invite into them. Anonymous demo sandboxes need no account and are deleted after 24 hours.

What you put in your books stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only to run the service for you: to keep it and show it to you and the people and agents you let in. We do not sell it, share it, advertise with it, or train anything on it. The privacy page lists exactly what is stored and for how long.

Agents and keys

When you connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or another agent, it acts as your delegate: under your name, with the role you gave its key, and every act it takes lands in your audit log with the agent named. You decide which agents to connect and what they may do, and you are responsible for what they do with the access you gave them. A key or a document link works for whoever holds it, so treat it like a password and revoke it when you no longer want it to work.

The rules in your books hold for an agent exactly as they hold for you. Some acts, such as approving a bill for payment, are refused to agents whatever their role. Your agreement with your agent's provider governs what that provider does with what the agent sees.

What Saybooks is not

Fair use

Don't use Saybooks to do anything unlawful, to store data you have no right to hold, to try to reach someone else's books, to probe or attack the service, or to send it so many requests that it slows down for others. The service limits how fast any one address can call it, so it stays fair for everyone.

Open source

The code behind Saybooks is published under the AGPL-3.0 at github.com/alviso/saybooks. These terms cover the hosted service and the apps we distribute. If you run the code yourself, the license governs that, and these terms do not.

Saybooks for Mac and iPhone

The apps run on your own devices and keep your books there. Nothing passes through a server of ours unless you point them at books on saybooks.io, and then these terms apply to those books as to any others. The model the Mac app runs and the search it can use are provided by others, under their own terms.

Availability and changes

saybooks.io is run by one person. It is meant to be up all the time, but there is no guaranteed uptime, and features may change, move or go away as the product grows. If the hosted service is ever shut down, it will be announced on the site and by email to everyone with a space, at least 60 days ahead, so there is time to export. Export works any day, and the export file can be brought into Saybooks for Mac.

Ending

You can stop at any time: delete your spaces, and email us if you want your account removed as well. If someone breaks these terms, we may suspend their access, and where we can we will say why and give them the chance to export first.

No warranty, and limits

Saybooks is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses that come from figures you relied on without checking, and our total liability for anything to do with Saybooks is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the past twelve months and 100 US dollars. Nothing here limits rights the law does not allow to be limited.

The law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, in the United States, and any dispute goes to the courts in Multnomah County, Oregon, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it at home.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a way that matters, the change is dated on this page and announced on the site before it takes effect. Using Saybooks after that means you accept the new version; if you don't, export your books and stop.
